Glenelg to Skye Ferry

Posted by

Community owned ferry that runs between Glenelg and the Isle of Skye during the summer. It is the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world. It takes two cars, charges 15 Pounds and runs every 20 minutes. It crosses the Kyle Rhea Straits, a 600m crossing, where at peak tides the current can run at 10 knots. It wasn't that rough when we took it across to Glenelg but the high twisting one-lane edge of cliff roads going to the ferry and after leaving it were pretty scary. To add to this, Vin was driving a stick shift rental car on the left side of the road.
