Heartbreak Hotel

Welcome to Kenansville, kind of a Florida ghost town in Oceola County near Kisimmee. This was an 1800s cattle town that developed when Henry Flagler ran a spur of his Florida East Coast RR into town. The town was named in 1914 for his wife, Mary Kenan Flagler. She was the first depositor of the bank across the street, now a historic restoration. The Heartbreak Hotel was built in 1915 and was first called the Piney Woods Inn. Its name was changed in 1955 to the Heartbreak Hotel after the song Elvis Presley made famous. Did Elvis stay there? Not likely, but he did tour in Central Florida at that time.
